My Mom's favorite flower has always been the Gardenia. She has SUCH a green thumb, but has never had luck with these in Denver. I planted this last summer, and was so sad when every single bud failed to open and soon fell off, as the plant itself thrived - it has been with baited breath that I watched a new batch take form this Spring. Late this afternoon, the very first of about fifty that are on it at the moment, opened - the scent is heavenly! This one is for you, Mom - I only wish you could smell it, too. Happy Mother's Day - XOXO

Dear Tanya, so stunning- I love them too, but they will not grow here with me! Must look so divine with so many buds opening up.
Hugs from Dorthe and a happy monday .

What is it about mothers and Gardenias? It's my mother's favorite flower as well! She cannot get them to grow more than a couple of years in Huntington Beach, but I think that's my fault for not helping her.
That is a beautiful photo for a wonderful day. Happy Mother's Day to you, too!
Tanya-
Gardenias are such beautiful and fragrant flowers. I love them too. It's so nice that you can associate a lovely and personal memory with a flower as special as this one.

I have loved Gardenia's since I was a little girl and my Grandma had them growing at her home. I would swing and sing "White Gardenia" over and over again. I do have a few that are able to struggle through our winters and the smell of the blossoms is heavenly. Yours is beautiful.
Beautiful flowers, beautiful tribute..I am sure your mom is smelling plenty of gardenias!
